According to Ibn Abbas' (ra) Hadith, the Quran was revealed in seven Ahruf (plurial of harf ). Previously, it was sent down (revealed) in one harf, which indicates one lecture; however, the prophet (saws) insisted on Gabriel asking Allah (swt) to disclose it in seven ahruf to satisfy the parts of Arabia where the pronunciation of the letters differed.
